Since last Fall, Sue, Western Mass Family Leadership Coordinator, has been working with a group of UMass Amherst students who are involved with the Boltwood Project, a student run civil service group that focuses on the disability community.

This great group of students has learned about the legislative process, and chose a bill that they wanted to advocate for.  They chose bill S 1325 – An act relative to meeting Human Service Demand by modernizing incentives for the direct care workforce.

They created a one page infographic and a petition to round up support for the bill from their fellow students involved in the Boltwood Project. They also created a template email that people can use to email their representatives.  This was their first time engaging in an advocacy project, and they did a great job!

Last week, at a campus event, they showcased their work and gathered over 100 signatures for the bill, which is great!

Please consider contacting your legislator using their template.

Family advocacy can happen anywhere! And it is fantastic to see our next generation of leaders and professionals taking an interest in disability rights.
