Register for Creating an Intentional Community: What we can learn from Deohaeko, Canada

April 8, 2020 at 1:00pm Eastern

Presenter: Janet Klees

Intentional communities promote person-centered living and community engagement for individuals with disabilities. The story of Deohaeko Support Network, created nearly 30 years ago in Ontario, Canada, illustrates how an intentional community built on one site and guided by a set of principles has inspired other local family groups to achieve varying degrees of "intentional community" in their own neighborhoods.

Speaker Janet Klees will share her experience in helping establish Deohaeko, working directly with families. She'll discuss:

  • the making of a sustained, family-led initiative of high quality and endurance
  • how a clear set of principles and values can drive creation of a thriving community
  • what steps you can take to make this happen for your own family
